When boys become men series

Challenges surface appearances to ask what it truly means to become a man. It posits that the boy and the man are one, though external forces can tragically accelerate this transformation.

A Dialogue Across Time

The ‘WHEN BOYS BECOME MEN’ series is a powerful exploration of masculinity, expectation, and identity. Through a distinctive mixed-media process, I merge archival portraits of men from the early 20th century (circa 1909 onward) with present-day images of young boys.

This fusion of historical and contemporary imagery creates a tangible tension across time, challenging the viewer’s perception. The series investigates the complex space between boyhood and manhood, suggesting they are intrinsically connected—one and the same—while acknowledging that tragedy or burden can force this internal man to emerge far too soon.

Each piece is a meditation on strength, resilience, and the silent loads carried across generations.
